Gas Stove Installation

They visited our stove showroom to have a look at our displays and to discuss what may be suitable for their home, and arrangements were made for an engineer to visit their property to check which fire would be suitable for their existing fireplace and chimney.

On this visit the chimney / flue was smoke tested to confirm its suitability to accept a gas fire. This is done by lighting a smoke bomb in the fireplace opening and checking the rooms and roof space above to check that no smoke is escaping into them.

On the home visit the engineer checked the dimensions of the existing fireplace, so when the customers had chosen their preferred fire it would fit the space available and have the correct heat output for the room. In addition to checking the chimney/flue is suitable for a gas fire, the availability of an incoming gas service and pipework was be checked.

Once these checks had been made we gave advice to which kind of fire or stove would be suitable so the customers could select what they wanted. Next an agreement was made on the costs involved to supply and fit the gas stove and these included removing and disposing of the old fire and fireplace; supplying the new stove, hearth and beam; blocking in a recess; and making good plaster around the fireplace and the filled in recess.

First the original fire and fireplace were removed and bricks removed to accommodate the new stove, back hearth, hearth and chamber. Next the recess was filled in and the whole wall was plastered.

A gas liner was installed in the chimney before work started on building the new fire chamber which has been fitted with rustic bricks. Honed granite has been used for the hearth and back hearth and on top of these a Fireline gas stove has been fitted. To complete a light oak beam was fitted above the fireplace.

Fireline Gas Stoves are supplied from Charlton and Jenrick.

The customers were very satisfied with the final result and we are proud to have completed another gas stove installation project locally here in Devon.
