5 Reasons Why You Should Get Your Gas Fire Serviced Every Year

by | Sep 30, 2020 | Gas Fire Tips, General News, Helpful Tips

Project summary

If you want to know why you should get your gas fire serviced regularly then this blog article is written for you! Without knowing this knowledge you’re more likely to put off having it done (or you may completely forget about). Getting your fire serviced is, however, very important for a number of reasons including the safety of all in your home and to find problems before they become serious.

Happy Customers

We come highly rated by our customers, see our reviews
We first published this blog post in October last year – and many of our customers found it helpful so we’ve slightly updated it and are republishing it here, for you to hopefully find interesting and good timing as the weather becomes much more Autumnal!

1. Safety of everyone in your property

The highest priority and so number one on our list is safety! Your gas fire needs to be safety checked and serviced at least once a year for the safety and well-being of you, your family, and anyone else entering your home. The main concern is the danger of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

When we service a gas fire our Gas Safe engineers will check to make sure that harmful gases are vented safely in accordance with safety regulations. Also, they will check to see if anything could be a fire risk.

If you are really asking yourself why you should get your gas fire serviced then this is a clear and obvious top priority reason!

2. Ensure your gas fire lasts for longer

Regular servicing of your gas fire will identify any defects before they become serious problems. If you were to leave your fire without it being checked then a small defect, over time could turn into a significant issue that may stop it from working efficiently, or perhaps at all.

By regularly servicing your fire, and then repairing small defects early on, you will help to keep it working for a longer time, with the added benefit that you will have the peace of mind that it will work when you need it to.

In addition to finding defects if there are any, a gas fire service will ensure that the components inside your gas fire are cleaned – and so doing this regularly will help to ensure it works both safely and efficiently.

3. Save money on bills and repairs

A correctly running gas fire will be more efficient and save you money in running costs. If your fire is running inefficiently then it will be burning more gas than it needs to and your heating will not be as effective as it could be.

Also, the early identification of defects and their repairs will perhaps increase the lifespan of your fire, and prevent you having to replace it if it is condemned.

4. Comply With Guarantees and Insurance

Manufacturers may have offered you an extended guarantee that is only valid if your gas fire is serviced annually – in which case you need both to have your fire serviced and have proof that it has been done so in order for the guarantee to remain in place.

Likewise, if you have separate insurance for the fire then this may be a requirement. The service can then be recorded in the manufacturer’s manual.

5. Legal Requirement for Landlords

It is a legal requirement for landlords to have gas appliances safety checked and serviced every year by a qualified Gas Safe engineer – by law all gas appliances and flues need to be checked.

Of course if you are not a landlord and it is your home then the fact that there is a legal requirement for annual servicing of gas fires for landlords makes it clear that it is strongly recommended for the safety of a home.
