5 Reasons Why You Should Get Your Boiler Serviced Every Year

by | Oct 1, 2019 | Boiler Tips, General News, Helpful Tips

Project summary

If you’re unsure why you should get your boiler serviced regularly then you’re more likely to put off having it done (or you may completely forget about). It is, however, very important for a number of reasons (critically including the safety of all in your home) to find problems before they become serious.

1. Safety of anyone who enters your property

Clearly – the highest priority and so number one on our list is safety! All gas appliances need to be safety checked and serviced at least once a year for the safety and well-being of you, your family, and anyone else entering your home. The main concern is the danger of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

“A faulty boiler can be incredibly dangerous with 250 hospitalisations a year the result of non-fire-related carbon monoxide poisoning between 2001 and 2010 in England & Wales.” – British Gas

During the service of a boiler our Gas Safe engineers will check to make sure that harmful gases are vented safely in accordance with safety regulations. If you are really asking yourself why you should get your boiler serviced then this is a clear and obvious top priority reason!

2. Keep your boiler lasting longer

Regular servicing of your boiler will identify any defects before they become serious problems. If you were to leave your boiler without it being checked then a small defect, over time could turn into a significant issue that may stop your boiler from working efficiently, or at all.

Identifying – by regularly servicing your appliance – and then repairing small defects of your boiler early on will result in a longer lifespan of your boiler, as well as peace of mind that it will work when you need it to.

In addition to finding defects, the components inside the boiler need to be cleaned regularly to ensure it works both safely and efficiently – which is a standard part of the boiler service.

3. Save money on gas bills and repairs

A correctly running boiler will be more efficient and save you money in running costs. If your boiler is running inefficiently then it will be burning more gas than it needs to be, and your central heating and water will not be as hot as it could be.

Also, the early identification of defects and their repair will perhaps increase the lifespan of your boiler, and prevent you having to replace it if it is condemned.

4. Comply With Guarantees and Insurance

Manufacturers may have offered you an extended guarantee that is only valid if the boiler is serviced annually – in which case you need both to have your boiler serviced and have proof that it has been done so in order for the guarantee to remain in place.

Likewise, if you have separate insurance for the boiler this may be a requirement. The service can then be recorded in the manufacturer’s manual.

5. Legal Requirement for Landlords

It is a legal requirement for landlords to have gas appliances safety checked and serviced every year by a qualified Gas Safe engineer – by law all gas appliances and flues need to be checked.

Of course if you are not a landlord and it is your home then the fact that there is a legal requirement for annual servicing of boilers for landlords makes it clear that it is strongly recommended for the safety of a home.

Hopefully this has answered the question ‘why you should get your boiler serviced’. You can find out more about what we do when we carry out a boiler service here.
