In contrast in the UK, there are approximately 15million flued fires in use - of which there have been 1000 deaths directly attributed by flued gas fires.

Flueless gas fires have been designed to burn very cleanly and are thoroughly tested for levels of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, gas flow and soot. Flueless gas fires incorporate a catalytic converter that converts carbon monoxide and oxygen to harmless carbon dioxide.

Flueless gas fires are really popular with local authorities and builders as they have low installation costs - rather than having to take hours to fit, flueless gas fires can be fitted in a much reduced timescale. Also the servicing that a flueless fire requires tends to be lower than that of a conventional flued fire.
